The New School Graduate Writing Program encourages applications from aspiring writers, however diverse their academic backgrounds and life experiences. Applicants to the MFA program must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Applications are reviewed by an admissions committee consisting of the director of the Writing Program and members of the faculty. The writing sample is the most decisive factor in this review, but letters of recommendation, academic transcripts, and the applicant's Statement of Purpose are all carefully evaluated. For details on how to apply to the MFA program, see Admissions Procedure.
Applicants must indicate on their application which writing concentration they wish to pursue: poetry, nonfiction, fiction, or writing for children.
