The New School Writing Program is an opportunity to study the craft of writing under the direction of master teachers who are distinguished practitioners. This approach emphasizes the study of literature as a vital artistic discipline, a creative activity, rather than as a field for historical analysis or an object for interpretation, as would be the situation in English or Comparative Literature departments. The writing program offers a 36-credit course of study leading to the MFA degree, with concentrations in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for children. Writing workshops in each concentration are scheduled every semester. Literature seminars covering a range of traditional and contemporary topics are intrinsic to the graduate writing curriculum. Graduate students also participate in a Writer's Life Colloquium with visiting writers, editors, and teachers. | |||||||||||||||
