Welcome to The New School’s University Center, a new focal point for our campus and neighborhood, currently being built on 14th Street. With a design as distinctive as The New School itself, the University Center will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including fully wired “smart” classrooms, design studios, a student residence, and an auditorium with a convertible runway.
Mutual Mentoring, a model that has emerged at universities in the last decade, is grounded in a vision of mentoring as a broad network of support in which faculty draw on the expertise of many. Faculty members develop collaborative relationships, becoming "mentoring partners" who have something to teach each other. Applications for Mentoring Grants for 2013-2014 are now available. The due date is March 4, 2013.
In his keynote speech, Nate Silver called upon all graduates to improve on the legacy of their predecessors: “Don’t do what the previous generation did,” he said, “do better.” Silver, whose statistical analysis for New York Times blog “FiveThirtyEight” caught the attention of millions during the 2012 presidential election, urged those seated before him to create new opportunity from previous generations’ failures.
