Carol B. Wilder, Chair, Department of Communication, wilderc@newschool.edu The Master of Arts degree in Media Studies was first offered by The New School in 1975. Currently, there are more than four hundred degree candidates. Our faculty is made up of successful and experienced scholars and practitioners, researchers, artists, authors, editors, corporate communications experts, directors, and producers. The body of knowledge and skills developed is especially pertinent to persons interested in or working in industries like film, broadcasting, cable, business communication, public relations, advertising, and interactive/digital media. It is also highly applicable in the teaching and information science professions, and it can serve as a foundation for doctoral studies in a number of fields. Our curriculum provides both theoretical and practical knowledge in the quickly changing world of communication technology and business.
Certificate in Media Management The Department of Communication also offers a 12-credit graduate certificate program in Media Management. The program offers media professionals a state-of-the-art education in the principles and skills expected of leaders in the industry. A faculty of well-known media executives, entrepreneurs, and analysts teaches in the six program areas: Industry Perspectives, Media Management and Leadership, Media Economics, Information Technologies, Competitive Strategies, and Corporate Responsibility. Credits earned are fully applicable toward the M.A. in Media Studies. The certificate program is fully described at the website www.newschool.edu/mmp.
